Some of the HRT team getting ready for Mair's Walk

We are sponsoring the t-shirts for the popular Mair's Walk, which is taking place on Sunday 7^th June at 11am.

Mair’s Walk was set up by Mair ap Gruffydd after she was given a 50 per cent chance of living just two years when she was diagnosed with cancer.

Now in its ninth year, the hugely popular event attracts over 1,000 walkers every year and has collectively raised over £188,000 for lung cancer research at Velindre Hospital.

This year, Olympic Medallist Jamie Baulch will be leading the three mile sponsored walk from Bridgend Recreation Centre to Ogmore Farm via Merthyr Mawr and the Stepping Stones.

Once the walk has been completed, there will be a refreshments marquee at Ogmore Farm where there will be a performance by Bridgend Male Voice Choir as well as a fun fair for children to enjoy. There will also be a prize for the best fancy dress, which is optional to all participants and a raffle.

James Mordecai, partner at HRT, said: “We are thrilled to support Mair’s Walk once again. Mair is a truly inspirational woman who has been instrumental in raising a significant sum of money for lung cancer research at Velindre Hospital.

“Since opening our third office in Bridgend last year, we have been actively involved in the Bridgend community. We will have a team taking part in the challenge and we hope to see lots of people supporting the event and wearing the Mair’s Walk t-shirts. We’re sure it will be great day for everyone involved.”

Mair ap Gruffydd, said: “I think everyone has been effected by cancer in some way which is why so many people come together and show their support. It really is rewarding to see thousands of Bridgend residents taking part. Velindre Hospital makes a massive difference to those suffering from cancer and its research is instrumental in helping us find a cure for this cruel disease. 

“We rely heavily on the support of local companies like HRT to help us run and organise the event. Due to the generosity of our sponsors, we can ensure all money goes to charity and not to running the event.

“There’s going to be plenty of things to do after the walk for all the family so we hope we will have a great turn out once again – fingers crossed the weather is on our side!

Online registration is open but you can also register on the day for £10 from 9:30am at the bowls area at the Rec. Early registration is recommended as a limited number of free Mair’s Walk t-shirts will be available to participants.
