Date Posted: 28 April 2015
Luke and his groomsmen are raising money for Velindre
At 9am on Wednesday 29th April, Luke England will set off on a journey of almost 200 miles in a dash to get him to the church on time to marry fiancée Harriet Clarke.
Luke, together with his father Nigel England and groomsmen - Herbert R Thomas’ partner James Mordecai, Julian Hitchcock, Freddie Hitchcock, Oliver Ladbrooke-Davies, Martyn England, Fraser Clarke and Josh Clarke are making the journey in a bid to raise funds for Velindre cancer centre.
Luke’s mother Marianne England explained: “During Mair’s Walk, a Velindre fundraiser, we got chatting and decided how fantastic it would be for Luke to be able to cycle to London for his wedding, all in aid of the charity. It’s a cause that’s very close to our hearts, so the groom, family and friends will be cycling nearly 200 miles from Cowbridge to London to raise funds for the centre. ”
The three day challenge will see the men cycle from Cowbridge to Chippenham, on to Windsor and finally London, where the wedding will take place on Saturday 2nd May 2015 at Fulham Palace.
Head of Fundraising at Velindre Andrew Morris said “Lots of people have crazy ideas, but very few follow it through – we are really grateful to Luke and Harriet and the group for this wonderful gesture, and hope lots of people will support them.”
The team have been overwhelmed with the support and have raised almost £17,500 to date. Anyone looking to sponsor can donate via:www.justgiving.com/Luke-England1
Best of luck to you all, from all at Herbert R Thomas.
